BANBURY United can still pull off the great escape after a 3-0 victory at home to Slough Town in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.

The Puritans went into last night’s game knowing they had to win to stand any chance of avoiding relegation as the season enters the final weekend.

And second-half goals from Leam Howards (2) and Marvin Martin ensured their campaign will go right to the wire.

Banbury have won four of their last six games and travel to mid-table Chesham United on Saturday knowing that if they are victorious, and Frome Town lose at home to play-off hopefuls St Neots Town, they will avoid the drop.

Last night’s game was rearranged after the original clash in October was abandoned when referee Lee Sheridan was hit by a plastic bottle thrown by a spectator.

Banbury trailed 2-1 at the time of the abandonment.
