FELIPE Barcelos scored a dramatic late winner as Banbury United beat Winchester City 1-0 at Spencer Stadium last night.
The success moves Mike Ford’s side into the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West play-off final, where they will host Taunton Town next Monday.
It had proved a largely frustrating night for the home supporters, but they erupted with just four minutes remaining when Barcelos took advantage of a slip by the Winchester keeper to score what turned out to be the only goal of the game.
Barcelos, twice, and Zak McEachran tried their luck in the opening period, but neither could hit the target.
Barcelos somehow failed to bundle home from close range a minute into the second half, but Banbury stayed in control.
Jack Westbrook headed against a post, before Ricky Johnson and Mark Bell also went close for the hosts.
Ford’s side did eventually make the breakthrough when visiting keeper Brendan Norris slipped, allowing Barcelos to score the winner and secure a home clash with Taunton, who beat Swindon Supermarine 2-1.
