A DOUBLE from Louis Joyce plus a late Ben Whitehead goal extended Didcot Town’s winning run to five matches in the Evo-Stik Southern League as they triumphed 3-1 at Swindon Supermarine.

The visitors, looking for revenge after the 5-1 loss to Supermarine on the opening day of the Division 1 South & West campaign, were straight out of the blocks and Joyce put them in front after 15 minutes.

Sam Elkins’s deflected cross was not cleared by the home defence – and Joyce capitalised by firing past keeper Connor Johns.

The Railwaymen continued to dominate.

Another Elkins cross saw Conor Davis set up Joyce, whose effort struck a post.

Against the run of play, Supermarine pulled level on the half-hour when former Didcot player George Reid’s cross was diverted into the net by Declan Benjamin for an own goal.

Didcot regained the lead five minutes later when Whitehead’s shot rebounded off the post and into the path of Joyce, who made no mistake with the follow-up.

The second half saw Supermarine come more into the game, but they were unable to test the Didcot goal.

With the final whistle approaching and the hosts pushing for a point, Whitehead sealed a deserved victory by firing past Johns as Didcot’s fifth win on the bounce moved them into the top ten for the first time this season.

Didcot Tn: Bedwell, Elkins, Organ, Benjamin, Ballard, Learoyd, Barder (Barney 89), McNish, B Whitehead, Joyce (Thomas 54), Davis (Janes 77). Sub not used: H Whitehead.

Struggling Wantage Town crashed to their second straight 5-1 defeat – this time away to Paulton Rovers.

After holding out for 44 minutes, the visitors conceded three goals in five minutes around half-time to Elliott Gibbons (2) and Will Hailston.

Strikes from Kailan Gould and Kane added to Wantage’s woe before Mark Francis pulled a goal back in the 86th minute.
