OXFORD City boss Mark Jones is resorting to Plan B as he bids to start turning around his team’s fortunes.

And a home tie against Bognor Regis Town at Marsh Lane in the fourth qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup tomorrow provides a perfect opportunity to lift everyone’s spirits.

City, who dropped into the relegation zone last week, face their biggest game of the season so far against their fellow Vanarama National League South strugglers.

And Jones said he is planning to make big changes to their style of play.

“The first 15 games have not been good enough,” he said.

“I’m fed up of being told we’re playing well and were dominant, only to lose. We have to start getting the balance right between attack and defence.”

He said: “We’ve conceded 30 goals in 13 league games.

“We try to play an open and attractive style of play, but results have simply not been good enough.

“We need to modify what we have been doing.”

City will book their place in the first round proper if they can beat the Sussex side, and Jones hopes it can finally kick-start their flagging campaign.

But the boss understands that the responsibility of results rests with him.

“If I want to stay in football management, I have to accept that we need to start winning,” he said.

“I’ll find myself out of a job very quickly if we don’t.

“I’ll be honest, of course I’m not enjoying it as much as I should be doing at the moment, but these things are meant to test you.

“Hopefully these experiences will make me stronger moving forwards. I’m not the type of person to give up.”

Bognor have not won a league game since August, and Jones is hopeful that can stand his City side in good stead.

“They are a bit susceptible defensively, so I really think it’s about who really wants it most,” Jones commented.

“Hopefully with home advantage and a decent crowd, we will give our supporters something to cheer about tomorrow.

“It’s a massive game. We haven’t got into the first round since around 2011, so it would certainly pick the supporters and players up.

“A good cup run can create that interest and a bit of team ethic, which perhaps has been lacking.”

City will be without new signing Myles Welch-Hayes, who is on loan from Bath City, but they are boosted with the welcome return of centre half and captain Lee Henderson, who has finally shaken off the effects of a dead leg.

Midfielder Mo Fofana is rated no more than 50/50.
