MARK Jones hopes his Oxford City side can stretch their winning run to five games when they entertain high-flying Havant & Waterlooville in Vanarama National League South tomorrow

City’s 1-0 midweek victory over Oxford United in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup was just the tonic for Jones’s men after last weekend’s match at Wealdstone fell victim to the bad weather.

After being out of action for ten days, Jones was delighted with his side’s performance against United, and is calling for more of the same tomorrow.

“I was very pleased with our efforts on Tuesday,” Jones said.

“We hadn’t even managed to train the week before because of the bad weather, so the attitude our lads showed was excellent.

“We approached the game in the right way and got a good win.”

Havant are one of the main title-contenders this season, but Jones, while respectful of the Hampshire side, is not daunted by the challenge.

“We want to continue our good form,” he said.

“They are certainly one of the favourites to win it, but we’re also in a good place.

“It’s just going to be a case of continuing the good things that we are doing right now.

“We’ve worked very hard to stop oppositions from scoring, and it’s been a good period.”

Zak McEachran, who missed the midweek win through illness, is set to return, but Rob Sinclair is still struggling to shake off the effects of a leg injury picked up at Truro.

Jones added: “We will show Havant all the respect they deserve, but we certainly won’t fear them. We are just striving for a little bit of consistency.”
