Alfie Potter and James Constable both struck doubles as Oxford United continued their march at the top with a resounding win at the Kassam Stadium.

Ebbsfleet had no answer to the pace and power of Chris Wilder's team, who made it four league victories in a row.

The U's boss started with Potter and Onome Sodje either side of James Constable, and the forwards' direct and pacy running had the Ebbsfleet defenders in all kinds of trouble.

The U's got off to a magnificent start, with a goal in the fourth minute, and then a second five minutes later.

Alfie Potter cut inside from the right as Darius Charles missed his attempt at an interception from Dannie Bulman's through ball and, working into a position to fire in a left-footed shot, Potter then hammered the ball past Lance Cronin and high into the net for a fine finish.

If that was an impressive opening, it became even more so as moments later Constable took Sodje's slick pass beautifully in his stride, advanced three yards purposefully on goal, and then slotted home under Cronin's body.

That start caused a buzz around the stadium, and brouht a real spring in the step of nearly all the United players.

They began to play some super football, harrying opponets and closing down well to win possession, and then moving the ball quickly and with good understanding between the players.

A swift Potter-Constable break almost brought a third goal, Constable screwing his shot well wide in the end.

The only concern came down United's right, where Fleet left winger Ishmael Welsh was a real speed merchant, and he twice left Adam Chapman, who himself is no slouch, for dead.

On one raid, Welsh sprinted down the left, and the Brazilian Magno Vieira headed what he must have thought was a goal, only for Ryan Clarke to pull off an outstanding save, pushing the close-range effort over the bar.

Overall, though, Oxford were well in charge and they had the bit between their teeth.

Bulman, still eyeing that first goal, warmed Cronin's hands with a long-range drive, Sodje almost nipped in between last defender and keeper and Constable rose well at a corner, but couldn't direct his header under pressure at goal.

United's leadig scorer was left holding his head in his hands, though, after what for him was a bad miss in the 32nd minute.

But he had done very well to make the chance in the first place. Adam Murray threaded a pass through to him inside the box, and Constable turned centre half Leon Crooks with ease, only to curl his shot around both Cronin and the right post.

Ebbsfleet stepped it up at the start of the second half, and had a good spell, which was rewarded by a goal from Vieira, turning in a cross from the excellent Welsh on 57 minutes.

But like a wounded animal, United simply became fiercer.

And when Potter collected a pass on the right 25 yards out, the on-loan Peterborough player chipped the ball over Cronin, who managed to get a hand to it, but couldn't keep it out.

It didn't take long for 3-1 to become 4-1. Twice U's players had shots saved or blocked, but Constable ended the pinball with an emphatic finish, his 12 yard shot hammered into the ground and flying into the goal.

Constable was substituted with 19 minutes to go, Wilder understandably thinking about Tuesday night's FA Cup replay, and he went off to a standing ovation.

There might have been other goals.

Ebbsfleet missed a great opportunity when Ricky Shakes stabbed a shot wide from three yards.

But the U's had many more.

Sub Franny Green fired wide, from Jack Midson's pass, and Murray shot wide.

Fleet sub Scott Ginty curled a shot past Clarke two minutes from time, but it was still an emphatic Oxford United win - and their first league double of the season.
