Oxford United wrap up hat-trick
Kidlington 0, Oxford United 4
OXFORD United lifted the Oxfordshire Senior Cup for the third year in a row with this victory against Kidlington at the Kassam Stadium last night.
ButtheLeagueTwosidemade hard work of it before late second- half goals from Mitchell Hanson, substitutes Ryan Burge and Simon Heslop, and Alfie Potter, clinched victory against the battling Hellenic League outfit.
Kidlington started brightly against a strong United lineup, with regular first-team centre back Harry Worley bringing down Mark Flanagan as he charged towards the area.
At the other end, United’s Asa Hall saw his powerful header saved by Tom McNamara in the Kidlington goal from Hanson’s right-wing cross.
Jimmy Deabill sent his header whistling wide of United keeper Simon Eastwood’s lefthand post from Ben Willoughby’s cross.
United, skippered by Josh Payne, found it hard to break Kidlington down, who defended well, while at the other end, their front two of Deabill and JordanParker caused United’s defence problems.
But the U’s should have been aheadon30minutes,whenPotter was brought down by Christian Perkins after Hanson chested Worley’s long pass into his path.
The usually reliable Tom Craddock sent his penalty horribly wide.
After the break, Craddock blazed over from Steven Kinniburgh’s passwhenhe should have done better, and minutes later, the former Luton striker was unlucky to see his shot go wide of the far post.
With an hour gone, Craddock broke through on goal, but his poor cutback was cleared.
However, on 62 minutes the deadlockwasbrokenwhenformer Derby defender Hanson fired past McNamara after Kidlington failed to clear their lines. Itwashis firstgoalforthe U’s.
United suffered a blow when Worley went off injured to be replaced by Burge, and Kidlington were not giving up without a fight, forcing two corners in succession.
Jordan Parker’s dangerous free-kick was cleared for a corner, but on 84 minutes substitute Burge cracked home a stunning long-range effort.
Four minutes later, Heslop smashed the ball from 25 yards before Potter added No 4 in injurytimeas Kidlington’s battlers finally ran out of steam.
