MICKY Adams will watch from the stands at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow after being appointed Tranmere Rovers manager yesterday.

The Merseysiders sacked Rob Edwards on Monday and wasted no time in appointing a replacement.

But Adams, who is taking charge of his tenth club after resigning at Port Vale last month, will not completely take the reins until their home game against Mansfield Town next Tuesday.

Instead, assistant manager Matt Gill and coach Alex Russell are preparing Rovers for the clash of the Football League’s bottom two.

Adams, whose previous visit to the Kassam Stadium was a 2-1 defeat with Vale in March 2013, said: “The immediate task is to get the club off the foot of the table.

“There’s a lot of hard work ahead but it’s a challenge I’m relishing.

“Tranmere is a good club with a proud history and one which shouldn’t be near the bottom of the division.

“In the weeks and months ahead I’ll be doing everything I can to drive the club forward and to a much healthier position.”

The visitors’ best-known player is former Wales international Jason Koumas.

The midfielder says the squad are looking for the one result to turn their season around when they visit the U’s.

He said: “We just need a win to kick start our season.

“There’s fine lines in football and we need to put our chances away to start getting points on the board.

“We need to get out of this position as quickly as possible.

“I’ve played in a lot of teams, at West Brom in the Premier League we lost five or six on the bounce, but one win gave us confidence.

“Hopefully when we get one win we'll go on a good run.”
