OXFORD United pushed Manchester City all the way as they were edged out of the FA Youth Cup 2-0 in the third round.

Marcus Wood opened the scoring on 26 minutes, when he slotted home from ten yards.

United, big outsiders to progress, battled well to stay in the game, but were unable to claim the equaliser which would force extra time.

Instead, City finally made the game safe in second-half stoppage time, through Bersant Celina.

Despite the defeat, United's youngsters can take plenty of plaudits for their performance against a side packed with youth internationals.

Oxford Utd: Stevens, Welch-Hayes, Grant (Tuttle 79), Hayden, Cundy, McCormack, Jeacock, Humphries (Diaz-Benitez 70), George, Graham, Conte (Morgan Williams 59).
