DANNY Hylton is revelling in the buzz around Oxford United after the forward’s flying start to the season continued with a starring role in the 2-0 win against Yeovil Town.

The 26-year-old bagged his 20th goal for the club to open the scoring early on and turned provider in the second half when his shot was turned in by Callum O’Dowda.

It sealed stylish back-to-back wins at the Kassam Stadium and again the visiting side could not handle Hylton, who is loving life with a United side which moved up to fifth in the Sky Bet League Two table.

He said: “Whilst I’m playing I love it and obviously I’m enjoying it more now that we’re winning.

“As long as that continues I will always play with a smile on my face and as long as I’m bringing something to the team I’m happy.

“There’s no better job in the world, you’re playing football with your friends and there’s a really good buzz around.

“We’ve got fans singing the team songs the whole game.

“We’ve got a belief here and as long as we’re playing with a smile on our face it’s a good thing."

“It means we’re enjoying it and doing well and believe we can do something.”

The former Aldershot striker has long been a popular figure with United supporters, not just for his goalscoring exploits.

As well as giving them reasons to cheer for his role in the two goals, Hylton also provided a moment of comedy when referee Kevin Johnson dropped his yellow card.

United’s No 10 said: “It just fell on the floor and I couldn’t help myself.

“I had to give the ref a yellow card, they’ve done it to me enough times, so I thought I’d get him back.”

The campaign is only seven games old, but he has four goals already.

Last season’s top-scorer has plenty of competition for the crown, with Kemar Roofe also bagging four goals.

Hylton admitted there is a friendly rivalry over becoming United’s top marksman, although it is a long way down the list of priorities behind the team’s overall fortunes.

He said: “We’re both going to want to finish top, as will the other attacking players.

“If Roofey scores 30 goals and gets us promoted then I’ll give him a big cuddle at the end of the season."

“We all want to score a goal every game.”
