ZELI Ismail is determined to make a similar impact at Oxford United to Wolves teammate Jordan Graham.

The 22-year-old joined the U’s on a month’s loan on Monday from the Sky Bet Championship club.

And he was handed a quick introduction to life at United when he came on against Millwall on Tuesday night.

Ismail spoke to Graham, who played six times at Oxford earlier this season, about making the move to the Kassam Stadium.

And he hopes to make a similar impression to the winger, whose fine form in a yellow shirt led to a recall by Wolves.

He said: “Hopefully as the season goes on I get to play more and the fans get to see more of me.

“I am similar to Jordan.

“I like attacking and putting crosses in the box and creating things for the strikers.”

Ismail added: “He (Graham) is a good friend and on the training ground we always do things together.

“We talk about how we are going to get past players and what tricks we are going to do, so I can definitely say I am similar to him.

“He said go and be positive and enjoy yourself.

“He mentioned the fans are unbelievable and the boys are welcoming.”

Ismail’s first taste of action at United was as an 89th minute substitute in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final second leg.

And, despite joining the club just 24 hours previously, he joined in the party as the U’s booked their spot at Wembley with a 2-1 aggregate victory.

He said: “Not many players get to celebrate their side reaching Wembley after their first game so that was very exciting for me. I felt part of it.

“I know Macca (Alex MacDonald), Chey (Dunkley), and Roofey (Kemar Roofe). You are always going to make friends in football so I wasn’t going to be shy about it and really enjoyed the moment.”

Ismail has been at Molineux since he was ten.

But has struggled to break into the Wolves first team and spent time on loan at MK Dons, Notts County and Burton Albion.

The winger even made one goal and scored the other against United for the Brewers in a 2-1 win in 2014.

And the challenge for Ismail now is to impress head coach Michael Appleton enough to extend his stay beyond a month and force his way into the team for the JPT final on April 3.

He said: “Hopefully I am still here and I can’t wait to be a part of it.

“I want to prove to the gaffer that I want to be here longer and hopefully I can do that with my performances.”
