OXFORD United could break their Kassam Stadium season ticket record today with a surge predicted ahead of the renewal deadline.

In the 15 years since moving from the Manor Ground the club have broken the 4,000 barrier only three times, with the highest at 4,300 for the 2011/12 campaign.

More than 3,900 have been sold, passing last year’s total – which included half-season tickets, lounges and boxes.

There was a degree of concern at United with how the new higher prices would be received, but all indications have been supporters are prepared to pay more for Sky Bet League One football.

With hundreds of last season’s holders yet to renew, the ticket office is expecting to be busy in the run up to the 5.30pm cut-off for fans to keep their seats.

Greig Box Turnbull, United’s managing director, has been delighted, especially considering more than 1,000 seats have gone to supporters who did not come regularly last season.

He said: “The response from fans has been superb.

“I think the style of football is attractive to watch, the pricing we put in place was sensible, and the buzz from promotion has continued all summer.

“We expect another busy day today where fans renew their existing seats and we’re confident the demand will continue.

“The fantastic thing from our point of view is how many are new season tickets.”
