PETERBOROUGH United have gone back to basics in training this week in a bid to turn around their form ahead of Oxford United’s visit tomorrow.

A run of eight defeats from their last dozen games has seen the Posh slip from the play-off places in Sky Bet League One down to mid-table.

Boss Grant McCann opted to put the footballs away in training on Tuesday and concentrated on a physical session which looked at on restoring the side’s collective attitude.

He said: “This week we’ve been focusing a lot on our identity and trying to get it back for the last ten games.

“It was more about teamwork and dragging each other around the pitch.

“It was a good day and the boys were in good spirits, but it’s only training. I want to see them produce it at the weekend.

“It’s about getting back to that group mentality.

“We’ve possibly had (a problem) since January where people were worried about themselves and not the team.

“It’s important the club always comes first, that was the motto this week and hopefully we can bring that to the game on Saturday and get a positive result.”

McCann was in the stands to watch United’s clashes with Sheffield United and Luton Town in the past ten days.

He has been impressed with Michael Appleton’s men, who won the reverse fixture 2-1 at the Kassam Stadium last August.

McCann said: “It’s going to be a tough game.

“I’ve watched them twice now and they’re a good team.

“They’ve done really well considering they just came up last year.”
