SEVERAL crews for the Rio Olympics appear closer to being finalised after the senior Great Britain trials at the RedgravePinsent Lake, Caversham.

Favourites Alex Gregory and Moe Sbihi won the pairs and, with second-placed Oxford Blues, Constantine Louloudis and Peter Reed seem likely to form a four.

Former St Edward’s schoolboy, Stewart Innes with Leander clubmate, Alan Sinclair excelled to finish fourth.

The pairs B final was won by Oxford Brookes University’s Matt Tarrant, with Oxford Blue and multiple Olympic gold medallist, Andrew Triggs Hodge, eighth after returning from a year out.

Former Headington School rowers Fiona Gammond and Katie Greves are in the women’s sweep rowing squad.

Gammond’s pair just missed the A final, but dominated the B final finishing seventh overall.

Greves, racing in a single scull, did well to reach the A final.

Wheatley’s Frances Houghton has switched disciplines and looks likely to join Greves in the eight along with Oxford Brookes’ Olivia Carnegie-Brown.

With only a double and four available at Rio, competition for lightweight men is extremely tight.

Local candidates all produced impressive performances, but most will struggle to get selection.

In the tightest of all categories with only a double scull on offer, the lightweight women’s single sculls again featured Wallingford RC with Ellie Piggot, fourth, just ahead of Brianna Stubbs in fifth.
