Xavier Andre scored four tries for Henley Hawks against Southend
National 2 South
XAVIER Andre scored four tries as Henley Hawks ran riot with an 81-12 home victory over Southend.
Wing Andre was the main beneficiary in a 12-try haul, which saw Hawks climb to second place.
Jonah Holmes, who started London Welsh’s opening Aviva Premiership match against Leicester, grabbed two himself after moving from scrum half to wing.
Holmes was on loan from Wasps to Welsh earlier in the season and is now in his second spell at Henley.
On a dry pitch, Hawks rediscovered the form that saw them top the table as centre Danny Wells achieved a 26-point haul.
After a slow start, Wells’s penalty got Henley on the scoreboard.
Andre, full back Martin Nutt, fly half Tom Allen, flanker Matt Payne and Wells scored tries in the space of 15 minutes, Wells converting each for a 34-0 lead.
Centre Mike Stanley bagged a solo try for Southend, while left wing Danny Cleare was given a yellow card for foul play just before half-time.
Andre completed his four-timer, with Stanley managing a second for the visitors, Jack Jones converting.
Wing Richard Briggs and replacement scrum half Luke Carter bagged Henley’s ninth and tenth tries before Holmes added his double.
Wells converted six of the seven second-half tries.
Chinnor enjoyed a big win themselves, with wing Leo Fielding grabbing two tries in a 43-22 home success over Bournemouth.
Scrum half Frank Jones bagged Chinnor’s first try, following a delightful backhand pass from skipper Joe Winpenny.
Chinnor had fly half Will Millett sin-binned before full back Henry Colver and Bourne-mouth fly half Dan Pollard exchanged penalties.
Centre Matt Goode finished a backs move for Chinnor, with Colver converting, but No 8 Tommy Booth crashed over for the visitors.
Fielding glided over just after half-time, then Jones’s dummy allowed rampaging flanker Tom Mowbray to go over, Colver converting both for 29-8.
Bournemouth replied through scrum half Sam Hardcastle, who reacted first when the ball squirted out of a five-metre scrum, Pollard converting.
Wing Adrian Hales’s expert finish to a flowing move and Millett’s conversion put Chinnor 36-15 up on 55 minutes.
Chinnor’s purple patch saw Fielding bag his second, Millett converting.
Bournemouth had the final say on 77 minutes, with centre Dan Connolly scoring and Pollard adding the extras.
