London Welsh’s first mini tag rugby festival proved a big success at Iffley Road on Thursday.

More than 150 children from primary schools across Oxfordshire took part in the event, which saw Welsh players Paul Mackey and Mike Denbee in attendance.

The festival was the culmination of six weeks of coaching for the children as part of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme, under the supervision of Welsh’s community development coaches Alan Awcock and Matt Walsh.

“It’s good because you get to see the kids’ faces and they absolutely love playing,” added Mackey.

“The community department at the club are doing a great job and hopefully these children will continue to play rugby and will want to come along and see London Welsh play in the Premiership.”
