ALCHESTER upset promotion hopefuls Aylesbury with a 7-3 home success, despite having Joe McEneaney sent off.

Aylesbury had won their last ten matches, but could not overcome a stubborn Alchester defence.

Lock McEneaney received a second yellow card ten minutes from time, but his side held on.

The first half saw Aylesbury’s Andy Hackett plus Alchester new signing John Connaughton and McEneaney sin-binned.

Connaughton made amends by scoring Alchester’s only try, which fly half Tom Miles converted.

Miles also missed three kicks in front of goal in the windy conditions.

James Woodfall slotted a second-half penalty for Aylesbury and hit a post with another attempt.

Wallingford had to be content with a 24-24 draw at Reading Abbey.

Prop Antony Marris, who had returned from the sin-bin, scored Wallingford’s opening try.

Fly half Joe Murphy notched the first of a try treble before Abbey’s Mark Tolland was sin-binned.

Wallingford centre Ralph Smith sliced through to touch down and scrum half Phil Dawes converted.

Home flanker Fungai Mutepfa was driven over.

After the break, lock Carl Tappin crashed over for 17-10, but Murphy bagged a superb solo try, which he converted to equalise.

No 8 Jermaine Webster forced his way over for Wallingford and Dawes converted.

Murphy converted his hat-trick try to level again.
