• Assistant coach Ollie Smith expects London Welsh to cut out the costly errors to beat Edinburgh at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium tomorrow (2.30pm), writes Matthew Bruce.

Welsh were agonisingly denied at Murrayfield against the same opposition in last weekend’s in the European Challenge Cup clash, going down 25-13 despite having led until just 15 minutes from time.

But Smith believes that they can make amends at the Kassam Stadium after working hard to highlight the problems they faced.

He said: “Looking back at the video, you can see where we went wrong.

“It would be much more concerning if we were watching it back and thinking ‘I really don’t know what we could improve’.

“It’s just a case of highlighting those tipping points and trying to cut out the odd mistake here and there, which is what cost us.

“We were very close last week and if we can improve on those points this week then we have a great opportunity to pick up our first win.”

Despite falling to a 14th straight defeat in all competitions, the Exiles put in one of their best performances of the season in the first half.

And Smith feels they have shown they are good enough to beat Edinburgh tomorrow.

“The key thing that we as coaches try to press home is that we want to see a constant improvement from week to week,” he said.

“We’ve definitely seen that in recent weeks and this is a great chance to continue that trend.

“Eventually that will lead us to a victory.

“And we’re very hopeful that can come this weekend.

“If we improve on those little things from last weekend we can beat Edinburgh.”
