CHINNOR, who had beaten the top two teams in their previous outings, were reduced to 12 players as they lost 36-14 away to another leading side Worthing Raiders in a bad-tempered National 2 South clash on Saturday.

The game erupted on the hour when a mass altercation broke out involving both sets of players in which fists went flying.

As a result, Chinnor’s Ian Stock and Jack Hayes were red-carded, along with Worthing’s Liam Perkins.

Chinnor, who were trailing 22-14 at the time, then went down to 12 players six minutes later, as their prop Guido Cambareri was sin-binned.

After the flare-up and the dismissals, Chinnor showed some spirit, but conceded further tries to Joe Marchant and Loosemore, both of which McLean converted.

Leaders Henley Hawks suffered their third defeat in four matches when going down 18-17 away to Southend Saxons.

Playing with the blustery wind, Southend buit up a 13-0 interval lead thanks to unconverted tries from flanker Harry Hudson and hooker Adam Ferrier, plus a penalty from fly-half Bradley Burr.

Henley pulled it back to 13-10 early in the second half with a try from No. 8 Oscar Hirskyj-Douglas plus a conversion and penalty from James Comben.

With the floodlights belatedly put on, Henley took the lead when replacement lock Jake O’Leary scored a try which again Comben converted.

Henley looked set for victory, but Southend’s heavy pack took charge and fly half Burr’s kick to the corner was caught by centre Tom Ashton, who touched down the winning try from the last move of the game.
