WITNEY recovered from a 13-point deficit against Leighton Buzzard to extend their impressive winning run to ten games in South West 1 East.

Second-half tries from David Hyde, Jake Thomas and Joe Rowles secured a 22-13 victory, after Luke Stanbridge had starred for Buzzards in the first half.

The hosts took an early 3-0 lead through the boot of Stanbridge and on 20 minutes he was accurate with another kick.

Buzzards soon added more points to the scoreboard, with Stanbridge once again starring, this time going over and converting his own try.

A Phil Thomas penalty reduced the deficit to ten points.

In the second half, Hyde charged over to get the ball rolling, with Thomas converting.

And with ten minutes remaining, Thomas rounded a defender to touch down.

As the game reached its climax, Witney sealed the win after Rowles crashed over. Thomas converted.

Grove fell to a 29-20 defeat at Maidenhead.

Brendon White gave Grove a 5-0 lead, and Harry Carr kicked a penalty.

Maidenhead responded through Simon Eves, Mike Virgo adding the extras.

The hosts dominated after the break and scored two tries in three minutes through Tim Adams and Mykel Parrott.

Virgo converted one of the scores for a 19-8 lead and added a further three points with a penalty.

Grove got back into the game and Guy Nicholl’s try, converted by Carr, gave them hope.

However, Maidenhead all but sealed victory when Robbie Burroughs hacked on to score, with Virgo adding the extras.

Grove’s Tom Clipsham went over for a late consolation try.
