CHAMPIONS Banbury survived a second-half comeback to sign off with a narrow 40-38 win at Spartans.

Their 19th bonus point victory saw them break the 100-point mark in Midlands 2 West (South).

Spartans opened the scoring with an unconverted try, but Bulls responded well and Ian Isham crashed over.

Joe Mills added the extras.

George Grieve’s try, converted by Mills, made it 14-5 to Banbury, but Spartans quickly reduced the deficit with their second score.

The visitors went onto dominate the rest of the half.

Simon Brand and Jed Boyle went over, with Mills adding the extras for the latter score.

And full back Mills converted his own try to make it 33-12.

Isham’s second score then made it 40-12 at half-time.

Spartans began the second half with an unconverted try, before two converted scores took them within nine points.

The hosts crossed again to make it 40-38, but Banbury held on.

Bicester ended their home campaign with a 59-20 victory over Stow-in-the-Wold.

Tom Miles converted his own try to get the hosts up and running in the Southern Counties North encounter.

But unconverted tries from Archie Hayward and James Holmes put Stow 10-7 ahead.

Bicester had Dan Spencer sin-binned, but they soon regained the advantage when Dave Hampton and Mike Harris went over.

Miles converted both tries to make it 28-10 at the break.

Holmes crossed for Stow, but Bicester further cemented their lead when Miles converted his own try, before Peter Tarrega and Ryan Gallacher dived over.

Holmes once again touched down for the visitors, but Bicester’s Tom Horwood scored two tries late on.

Meanwhile, Wallingford beat Drifters 32-13.
