OXFORDSHIRE’S players have been told to keep their discipline for the crunch County Championship match against Essex at Henley tomorrow (3pm).
Head coach Craig Burrows issued the warning following their 32-25 victory over Bucks in their Division 3 group clash.
Oxon suffered a handful of yellow cards, but hung on thanks to a well-
organised defensive display.
Essex meanwhile defeat edNotts, Lincs & Derbys 32-8, so Burrows sees this as a group-decider
“We can’t afford to play against Essex with 14 men,” he said. “But if we keep our discipline and cut out our mistakes, it will be a very close game.”
The teams also met last season, when Essex recorded a narrow win.
Burrows said: “I think Essex are a stronger side now, but so are we.”
Oxfordshire make three changes.
Chinnor’s Harry Birch comes in for Giles Sarr at hooker, while Henley’s Dave Hyde is named at No 8 in the absence of Joe Bellinger.
Full back Jack Robinson is unavailable, so Chinnor’s Roddy Giles comes in.
Oxfordshire: Giles (Chinnor), Burn (Henley), Goode (Banbury), Martin (Grove), Yeats (Ox Harlequins), Stoop, E Phillips (Banbury), Primett (Henley), Birch (Chinnor), Boulton, Purchase, Neal (all Oxford Harlequins), C Chilvers (Grove), Lane, Hyde (Henley). Reps: to be selected.
