FORMER Oxford University forward Ian Williams has died at the age of 27.

The ex-Dark Blues prop, who played in three victorious Varsity Matches in 2013, 2014 and 2015, collapsed earlier today.

Williams had been training with Doncaster Knights at their Castle Park base when the incident happened.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, he could not be resuscitated.

Williams studied a Masters in literature & arts at Kellogg College during his time in the city.

An Oxford University RFC statement reads: “Everyone at OURFC would like to extend their deepest sympathies to Ian’s mother Pippa, father Phillip and sister Helen who became such well liked members of the OURFC family during Ian's time at Oxford.

“Details of Ian’s funeral will be posted once known. The club will be making no further comment at this time.”

Williams joined Greene King IPA Championship side Doncaster in the summer of 2017 and went onto make six appearances for the club.

As a mark of respect, Oxford University have cancelled their match against Penguins tomorrow night.
