RUGBY UNION: Crunch time for Chinnor

Chinnor hope to have centre Matt Goode back against Chippenham Chinnor hope to have centre Matt Goode back against Chippenham

CHINNOR head coach Jason Bowers says his players must not look beyond tomorrow’s National 3 South West clash at home to Chippenham (2.30).

Victory over Chippenham would guarantee Chinnor a home promotion play-off against either Ampthill or Tonbridge Juddians.

But Bowers warned they cannot let their minds drift to that showdown when they face a more immediate threat.

“Last week at Newton Abbot was a tough fixture for us, but this week will be a different challenge,” said Bowers.

“We have not played them since September (when Chinnor won 50-15) and a lot has changed since then.

“They have strengthened and have brought in a couple of good back row players and a strong winger. We’ll not underestimate them.

“We can’t look beyond this week. That would be counter-productive.

“We have got to keep our heads down and play well.”

Centres Sam Stoop and Matt Goode, plus flanker Adam Hastings could return.

No 8 Ollie Rees and wing Frank Mayfield come into the Oxford Harlequins team to host champions Bourne-mouth.

Nick Gardner, who filled in on the wing last week, reverts to blindside flanker.

Rees replaces Alex Powell, while Charlie Sammut is on international duty with Malta.

Quins coach Tony Edney, whose side are now safe, said: “We are just looking forward to the game.

“The pressure is off both sides now. Hopefully, we can make it a good spectacle.”

Henley Hawks have made four changes to their pack for the trip to National 2 South basement boys Barnes.

Alec Hepburn, Ed Church and Jim Hadfield replace Hugo Milford-Scott, Ant Brennan and Alex Penny in the front row, while Ben Ashmore comes in at blindside flanker.

Matt Payne moves from No 6 to partner James Winterbottom at lock.

Wing Aaron Lambourne, prop Alan Richens and lock Joe Rowles come into the Witney side to visit already-relegated Olney in South West 1 East.

Victory could see Witney achieve a top-five finish – a new high for the club.

Would you rather -
a) see Chinnor get tonked by Tonbridge next week.
b) see Chinnor win and then enjoy a whole season of reading about them getting battered?

At least we are in a position to think about promotion! Unlike some clubs in the area.

@Chinnor Fan - you should try and get to bed earlier, wouldn't want you to fall asleep during the play off.

qwerty what a nasty waste of space you are, you must take stupid tablets every day as no one could be born that stupid, and I am sure not one club in Oxfordshire would say you are a member

Whilst my opinion may not mirror the rest of the players at Chinnor RUFC let me just stress a few of points...

Firstly, Qewrty... who ever you are and who ever you believe to represent taking your sides disappointing season out on Chinnor is not going to relieve your pain. Now whether you represent Quins or the Rams I hope you are aware that all 45 players involved in these fixtures had both won and lost this season with class and dignity!

Chinnor support... I urge you to show some class as the playing staff have done all season! We must continue to show what we are about on the pitch!

You see... what happens with rugby is we go out to knock 7 shades of S**t out of each other for 80 minutes then we shake hands and have a drink afterwards! My suggestion if you don't agree would be that Oxford united could probably do with a few more fans on a Saturday afternoon!

Now... EVERYONE involved with the playing side of Chinnor are very proud to have earned the right to seek a place in National 2 this weekend and regardless of whether we win or lose we will do so with our heads held high. So whether you get to read about Chinnor getting humped this weekend or Chinnor getting humped all through the coming season remember that ALL those involved at Chinnor are very proud of their achievements this year from Mini's to colts, the second 15 being declared the best in Oxfordshire up to the first XV who have a very exciting opportunity this weekend against another great side who have had an impressive season.

We would also welcome support from any members of an Oxfordshire club who aren't involved in a county fixture this weekend to come along and enjoy the day. For those who are involved in representing the County this weekend we wish you every success, are behind you all the way and hope to join your success in the coming weeks!
