RUGBY UNION: Quins have a day to forget

National 3 South West

OXFORD Harlequins lost three players to injury in a 47-12 home defeat to Chippenham.

Lock Luke Brown and No 8 Ollie Rees injured knees, while full back Harry Warman fractured a collarbone.

A minute’s silence was held before the match in memory of Quins and Oxford Old Boys stalwart Owen Smith, who died at the Churchill Hospital on Wednesday.

Chippenham wing Chris Novik squeezed over for their opening try on 22 minutes.

Good support play by Quins flanker Tim Knapp and Rees went unrewarded before scrum half Lewis Surry shot through a gap to score, fly half Harry Taylor converting.

Centre Harry Whittington followed up his own charge-down to score and fly half Joey Todd’s conversion made it 12-7.

Quins drove prop Simon Chadbone over on 50 minutes.

But centre Ryan Surry ran in an interception try for Chippenham, Taylor converting.

Brown and Rees were carried off within a minute.

Chippenham added insult to injury with tries from Mike Baptiste, Chris Simmonds, Lewis Surry and Rupert Crockett, all converted by Taylor.

Warman’s injury came on 70 minutes.
