SOUTH WEST 1 EAST

CHAMPIONS Oxford Harlequins completed their home season with a 100 per cent record for the first time after hammering Newbury 64-25.

Prolific wing Jack Robinson took his season’s try tally to 28 with a four-timer, but Quins did not have it all their own way early on.

Newbury led 3-0 and 10-7 after fly half Richy West’s penalty and his conversion of wing Steve Denner’s try, Quins’ full back Will Hilton converting Robinson’s first in between.

Quins led 31-13 at the break, thanks to tries from No 8 Seisoni Tupou, hooker Simon Chadbone and Robinson, Hilton converting each and adding a penalty. West replied with a penalty.

Centre Adam Walsh ran in the hosts’ fifth try, converted by Hilton, but they had captain Luke Brown sin-binned and saw Newbury score via centre Dan Thorne, West converting.

Tries from centre Mike Lee and lock Allan Purchase, both converted by Hilton, made it 52-20.

Newbury wing Jamie Futcher bagged their third try, but there was still time for two more from Robinson, Hilton converting the latter.

Two tries from lock David Hyde helped Witney edge out Buckingham 31-29 at Hailey Road.

Victory kept alive Witney’s hopes of finishing fourth, while Buckingham’s two bonus points meant they escaped relegation.

Fly half Phil Thomas kicked two penalties, either side of one from Andy White, to give Witney a 6-3 lead.

Wing James Monks crashed over for Witney, but James Hulston’s try, converted by White, kept it tight.

Hyde’s double, plus a Thomas penalty and conversion, made it 26-10.

Buckingham had a man sin-binned, while Witney lock Charlie Bennett wasted a great chance.

Buckingham hit back, Matt Payne going over and White converting.

Replacment Carl Strutt’s try looked to have sealed it for Witney, but Buckingham’s Callum Gilly went over on 77 minutes, with White converting.

James Bernard scored the visitors’ fourth try in the final minute, and while White’s conversion hit a post, Buckingham had survived.

Grove’s season ended with a 30-27 defeat at Swindon.

Injuries and unavailability meant Grove travelled with a depleted squad, including Paul Shepherd coming out of retirement and flanker Ady Amies, 51, becoming the club’s oldest first-team player.

The visitors led 17-10 at half-time, with wings Guy Nicholl and Josh Allen scoring tries, Nicholl converting each and a penalty.

It looked even better when centre Tom Clipsham went over and Nicholl converted for 24-10.

Swindon, who managed two first-half tries, added two more and a penalty, while Nicholl was sin-binned for a deliberate knock-on.

Centre Nick Sevier’s penalty made it 27-23, but Swindon won it with their only converted try.
