CHINNOR maintained their 100 per cent record at the top of National 2 South with a 45-14 victory at home to Bury St Edmunds.

Although scoring six tries, the hosts did not have matters all their own way, as a spirited Bury side put them under pressure in the second half.

Ross Parkins claimed badly palmed line-out possession to score Chinnor’s first try.

Bury staunched wave after wave of Chinnor attack until CJ Osazuwa pounced on a loose ruck ball and pirouetted over for the score.

Two conversions and a penalty goal from Sam Angell saw Chinnor lead 17-0 at the interval.

The hosts came out smartly in the second half with Nathan Hannay and Tom Burns scoring early tries.

Bury then made a contest of it with Shaq Meyers and Ben Enoka scoring either side of a try for Chinnor by Ben Enoka.

In the dying minutes, Hannay raced half the length of the pitch before offloading to Henry Lamont who put skipper Bevon Armitage in for Chinnor’s sixth try.

Angell completed a faultless kicking performance with his sixth conversion.

Henley Hawks gave unbeaten high-fliers Old Elthamians a run for their money, but had nothing to show for it after a 30-20 defeat at Dry Leas.

After winger James Golledge scored an early try for the visitors, Henley responded when their best player George Jackson took a tap penalty and scored near the posts, adding the conversion for a 7-5 lead.

Elthamians responded with a tries from prop Lewis Brown, and Golledge’s second plus a conversion by Tom White.

Jackson (2) and White added penalties before half-time, when the visitors led 20-13.

Henley levelled the scores just after the break.

Tom Hall led a brilliant driving maul before the visitors stopped it illegally, leading to a penalty try which Jackson converted.

Elthamians replied with a try by Dominic Lespierre.

White converted and then added a penalty to complete the scoring.
