CHINNOR made it ten wins in a row in beating fellow high-fliers Old Elthamians 40-22 in a much anticipated top-of-the-table clash at Kingsey Road.

The Oxfordshire side are now the only unbeaten team left in National League 2 South and hold a six-point lead over their rivals.

Old Elthamians opened the scoring through James Golledge’s converted try, but Chinnor hit back to take a 12-7 lead.

First, Junior Fatialofa crossed and then CJ Osazuwa as they opened up a lead they never relinquished.

A series of scrums led to a penalty try for Chinnor but with Greg Goodfellow in the sin-bin for the hosts, the visitors took advantage through Jay Rudland-Thomas’s try.

However, the home side led 26-12 at the break when Nathan Hannay crossed to secure the four-try bonus-point.

Tom White kicked a penalty for the visitors, but the sides soon traded scores with Chinnor’s Danny Barnes and Old Elthamians’s Golledge crossing.

With the hosts leading 33-22, captain Bevon Armitage went over for the final try.

Bertie Hopkin converted five of Chinnor’s six scores as they continued their superb start to the season.

Henley Hawks suffered a fourth successive defeat when losing 23-13 at home to Clifton.

The visitors’s forwards proved influential, dominating at the set-piece.

A Brad Barnes penalty put Clifton ahead, but Tom Parton replied for Hawks to level the game at 3-3 at half time,

The hosts found themselves on the back foot for the first 20 minutes of the second half.

And the pressure told when Danny Wells burst through and Barnes converted to make it 10-3.

Continuing to dominate possession, Clifton went on to extend their lead to 14 points when Brian Watters went over in the corner.

Barnes added the extras from out wide.

Hawks responded well and their pressure took its toll when hooker Tom Emery crossed.

James Comben converted and kicked a penalty as the hosts now trailed by four points.

But with Hawks sensing at least a bonus point, Barnes kicked two late penalties as Clifton secured a comfortable victory and denied the hosts any consolation.
