CHINNOR are hopeful their link-up with Aviva Premiership giants Saracens will boost the club’s already flourishing juniors set-up, writes JACK JOHNSON.

The National League 2 South side announced the partnership with the English and European champions last week.

It will see Saracens offer coaching education and support at all levels, including the club’s mini and juniors section.

A rugby camp has also been pencilled in for February 16 and 17, while the relationship will include match day festivals and off the field development.

There will also be opportunities to visit the Barnet-based club’s home ground, Allianz Park, and to attend ‘Derby Day’ at Wembley on April 8, when Saracens take on Harlequins.

Chinnor director of rugby Matt Williams is confident becoming a partner club will be of huge benefit to the Kingsey Road-based side.

He said: “It is exciting news for the minis and juniors section with particular focus on assisting our existing coaches improve their skills.

“While there is no link at senior level in respect of player loans or dual registration, we are pleased that Saracens professional management have agreed to assist us in our continuing evolvement as a major community rugby hub and all that is involved in that process, both on and off the field.

“Our youngsters will also get to experience elite rugby at first hand.

“That can only help ignite their passion for the game.”

Chinnor have sides from under six to colts level and it has been a particularly successful 12 months for the latter.

Having been crowned National Colts Cup 17s South West champions last season, they are now through to the fifth round of the U18 National Colts Cup.

Chinnor president John Ashfield said: “We are all very excited by this partnership.

“We particularly hope it will inspire our youngsters and those who are thinking of putting a toe in the water of our wonderful game to join us.”

Saracens CEO Heath Harvey added: “I am delighted that Chinnor is to become part of the Saracens family.

“I have met with people at all levels in the club and can see their commitment to rugby in the community.

“I hope that we at Saracens can provide them with good guidance as they continue to grow.”
