OXFORD Harlequins ran in eight tries to beat Bicester 46-0 away and relegate their county rivals from South West 1 East.

With a maximum of 20 points available from their last four games, the north Oxfordshire side find themselves 22 adrift of safety at the bottom of the table.

Quins ended a three-match winless run in the process.

They made a strong start, with Ben Barrett crossing in the corner on four minutes.

It was soon 12-0 after Tom Guthrie went over, Huw Dimond converting.

Quins wrapped up the four-try bonus point before half-time when James Stacey and Tim Knapp crossed to make it 22-0.

The visitors continued to dominate, with Charlie Ward and Barrett going over, Dimond converting the latter, to stretch their lead to 34 unanswered points.

A spectacular 35-metre run saw Ward score his second try, Dimond adding the extras, before Michael Ojo broke clear for try No 8 in the last play.

Promotion-chasing Banbury recorded a 12th successive victory when claiming a hard-fought 8-0 win at Old Centralians.

The victory keeps them second – the league’s sole play-off spot – a point ahead of Chippenham, who beat leaders Old Patesians.

Despite being affected by injury and unavailability, an Ed Phillips penalty put Banbury in front.

Old Cents defended resolutely to keep Bulls at bay, before Dan Brady crossed in the corner for the only try of the game before half-time.

Ian Isham had a try disallowed after the break, but it did not matter as Banbury triumphed.

Witney earned a 14-10 home victory over relegation-threatened Marlow on Friday night.

Jake Edwards was sin-binned early on for the hosts and a Jamie Maddern penalty put the visitors in front.

But Witney replied when Matt Clarke crossed, Phil Thomas converting, to make it 7-3 after 29 minutes.

Marlow looked to play the more attractive rugby after the break, but the home side defended soundly.

And it was Witney who were next to score when Gareth Campbell picked up from the base of a scrum to dart over, Thomas adding the extras.

Maddern converted his own try to reduced the home side’s lead to four points with 15 minutes to go.

But Witney defended impressively to make sure of victory.
