MATT Goode is hoping an overnight stay in Devon will pay dividends as Banbury look to cap an already impressive season with promotion.

Bulls finished second in South West 1 East to set up a play-off against West runners-up Exeter University tomorrow.

Promotion to the fifth tier would end a fine season which has also seen the club lift the Oxfordshire Cup for a third year running.

Banbury have done all they can to ensure the players are rested for the crunch clash at Topsham Sport Ground.

They are making the three-hour journey tonight and have booked a four-star hotel.

“It’s quite nice to have a long trip,” said head coach Goode.

“And if we’re good enough to get promoted we’ll have to get used to them.

“It will be really good for the boys to bond during the evening without drinking and do something a bit different.

“We’re going to stop off in Bristol, have something to eat, and then just head on down there.”

Bulls took the title race down to the last weekend of the regular campaign and improved on last season’s points tally by 50, scoring 131 tries in the process.

While full back Tommy Gray has proved unstoppable in crossing 18 times, their forwards have also chipped in with captain Ian Isham taking his tally to 11 with a hat-trick last weekend.

Scrum half Ed Phillips has also been the master of consistency with the boot, kicking 205 points.

Goode believes his side have what it takes to beat Exeter, who have home advantage due to finishing with a higher tally.

He said: “I want to win every game.

“To go up would be amazing and the boys are ready to show what they can do at a higher level.

“But the division we’re in is a good rugby playing league, we enjoy playing in it.

“Whatever happens I’m immensely proud of the boys.”

Centre Jack Briggs and prop Joe Winpenny are unavailable, but wingers Freddie Crack- nell and Josh Deegan could return.

Meanwhile, relegated Grove complete their league campaign when they host Old Centralians.

In National League 2 South, Chinnor face Clifton at home bidding to head into their play-off on the back of a victory.

Henley Hawks travel to Redingensians.
