London Welsh have signed Scarlets No 8 Chris Hala’ufia on a two-week loan basis – and he has been put on the bench for tomorrow's match against his old club Harlequins at the Twickenham Stoop (3pm).

Hala’ufia, 35, joined the Scarlets in the summer ahead of the 2014/15 season from London Irish, where he had spent the previous six seasons.

Two seasons ago, he was sent off and banned for five matches following a big-hit tackle on Seb Jewell when playing against London Welsh.

Hala’ufia also gained Premiership experience with Harlequins, where he played for two seasons.

In all, the hugely experienced back row forward has made 105 Premiership appearances.

Capped 24 times by Tonga between 2000-2009, Hala’ufia scored five international tries.

Welsh head coach Justin Burnell, said: “Due to our mounting injury list we’ve brought in Chris to help fill the gap on a short-term basis.”

Exiles make three changes to their starting line-up following their 46-10 defeat at home to Gloucester last Friday.

In the backs, Seb Stegmann returns to replace Rhys Crane, who moves to the bench.

In the forwards, another former Quin, Peter Browne, is named at blindside flanker after also sitting out the Gloucester game.

The return of Browne sees Lachlan McCaffrey move from blindside to open side flanker, in place of the injured Richard Thorpe.

Alongside Hala’ufia on the bench is Tonga prop Eddie Aholelei, waiting to make his debut.

Burnell said: “Harlequins are stacked full of international players.

“So it’s a huge challenge, but it’s one we’re very much looking forward to.

“It’s is a big game; it’s a local derby and that will add some spice to it, but we head to the Twickenham Stoop with absolutely nothing to lose.”

Nick Evans returns at fly-half for Harlquins inside the centre partnership of Tom Casson, who makes his first appearance of the season, and Matt Hopper.

The one change to the forward pack sees Joe Gray starting at hooker.
