LONDON Welsh rugby players are well known for their big hits on opponents in the Aviva Premiership, but yesterday they were the big hits as they took the Big City Scrum to the streets of Oxford.

Players from the top-flight rugby side, who play their home games at the Kassam Stadium, took part in an open training session at St Edward’s School before offering coaching to young people in Bonn Square.

The event was created to get more people involved with Oxford’s only professional top-divison sports club.

Head coach Justin Burnell said: “The biggest message is that Premiership rugby is here in Oxford. Let’s all get out and support it.

“We love being in Oxford. As you can see, we are doing as much as we can. We are just looking for more people to get involved.

“It’s not going to happen overnight. We’ve just got to let people know that we are here.

“Obviously we have got to do a lot more of these events and make sure that we are seen and definitely heard.”
