GORDON Ross was left rueing missed opportunities by London Welsh that paved the way to defeat against Edinburgh, writes SIMON WILLIAMS.

The Exiles assistant coach said the home side had not done enough with what possession they had in the first half of the European Challenge Cup fixture.

Ross, who did not feature against his former club, making way for the return of fly half Olly Barkley, said: “We played some really good stuff first half, created two or three really good opportunities, but sadly didn’t take them.

“Then in the second half, we were starved of possession and couldn’t get ourselves in field positions to do too much damage to Edinburgh.”

Both Ross and Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons agreed that Welsh’s inability to score after Andreis Strauss was sin-binned for the visitors was an important turning point in the game.

Solomons said: “We prepare quite carefully and have all our plans in place if a player goes down.

“I thought we did very well while we were down to 14 men and that was an important part of the game.

“The second half, to be honest, we were completely dominant.

“The whole game was basically played in their half.

“Over the 80 minutes of the game, I think the score is a fair reflection.

“I thought London Welsh defended bravely throughout and they were committed throughout.”
