London Welsh prop Nathan Trevett believes there is no pressure on the Exiles ahead of their ‘massive’ trip to fellow Aviva Premiership strugglers Newcastle Falcons tomorrow, writes Matthew Bruce.

Welsh’s wait for a first victory this season stretched to 12 league games with last weekend’s 24-13 defeat at home to Harlequins, despite an improved performance.

The run has left the Exiles adrift at the foot of the table ahead of their bottom-of-the-league clash with Falcons, but Trevett insisted they were not under pressure.

He said: “We’ve got nothing to lose, everyone’s written us off already.

“We just want to enjoy our rugby and I think we showed against Harlequins that when we just go out there and throw it around we can play some really good stuff.

“We have maybe been too cautious at times and it’s cost us.

“But credit to the coaches for giving us the licence to just go out there and play and enjoy ourselves.

“We just hope now to enjoy our rugby and if we do that the performances and results will hopefully follow.”

Welsh need to overhaul a 15-point deficit to catch tenth-placed Falcons and Trevett acknowledged that failure to win in the north-east this weekend would leave them with an incredibly difficult task.

He added: “It’s never over until it’s over, but obviously if we lose this it’s looking bad for us.

“That’s why this game is so massive for us.

“If we win it gives us a half-decent chance of staying up because it closes the gap a little bit, but if they win it makes it very hard for us to catch them.

“I think the win will definitely come; it’s just a matter of when. If it comes this weekend it will be massive.”
