FORMER Oxfordshire County Week player Cliff Smith (pictured) helped Leicestershire to victory in the British Seniors Over 65 Inter-County Championships.

The 67-year-old long-serving Oxford City LTC member (1972-2002) won both his doubles matches with partner Gordon Reekie as Leicestershire beat Yorkshire 4-1 in the final, despite being without former British No 1 Mark Cox.

Leicestershire progressed from Division 3 through to the final, remaining undefeated throughout.

Smith represented Oxfordshire from 1974-83, and in 1978, then aged 32, won the singles, doubles and mixed titles of the Oxford Mail tournament.

He moved to Leicestershire in 2007 and continued to play for Oxfordshire seniors until 2009.
