ALEX Moyse dug deep to defeat Felipe Stervid in a tight 12 & under boys’ singles final at St Hugh’s School, Carswell.

Moyse (Oxford Sports) clinched the Grade 5 event 4-2, 3-5, 11-9.

Stervid (White Horse, Abingdon) had led 9-8 in the decider before Moyse struck decisively.

Meanwhile, Lucy Brown’s win at the Grade 1 British Tour event in Nottingham has moved the Elsfield player back into the UK’s top 20.

BICESTER are on the rise in the Thames Valley Winter League after a second 8-0 victory in Men’s Division 1.

The team of Robert Pink, Ryan Steward, Craig Naylor and Sam Shadbolt, who saw off Benson, are all former Bicester juniors returning to the club in their 20s.

Bicester do have some strong competition though as David Lloyd and Wychwoods have also started the season with two wins each.

North Oxford have put aside their summer league relegation battles to lead Ladies’ Division 1 after a 6-2 win at Wantage.
