Alexis Canter is already looking forward to returning to Wimbledon next year after relishing his debut at the Junior Championships.

The 17-year-old, from Long Wittenham, played three matches at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, losing in the first round of the singles and last 16 of the doubles.

Canter, ranked 113 on the ITF Junior circuit, received a wildcard into the Championships and says he can only take positives from what he described as a “fantastic experience”.

He added: “I got to play three matches on the courts, I am very fortunate for that.

“I would play at Wimbledon every day if I could.

“I hope to come back for many more years and play as much as I can."

“It is the best event in the world, without a shadow of a doubt.”

British No 2 Canter previously admitted that he was affected by nerves in his 7-6, 7-5 first round defeat to Yosuke Watanuki last Saturday.

But he went on to record a 6-4, 7-6 win in the boys’ doubles, partnering 15-year-old Finn Bass, where he was not broken once by Emil Reinberg and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Their run was halted in the second round by fourth seeds Reilly Opelka and Akira Santillan on Thursday, who ultimately proved too strong for the British duo in a 6-1, 7-5 victory.

Canter added: “What I have learnt from Wimbledon is that I am really not too far away from the best boys in the world.

“I just need to improve one or two things, get stronger, and I will be competing with these guys every week.

“I’m disappointed Wimbledon is over, but I can look forward to coming back next year and hopefully go deep into the singles and doubles draws.”

Canter is next in action in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, at the end of the month in two ITF Futures events.
