Oxfordshire's women ended their Aegon Summer County Cup campaign by defeating South of Scotland 5-4 at Tunbridge Wells to avoid the wooden spoon in Division 7.

Oxon were leading 4-3 going into the last two matches, needing one more win for victory.

Third pair Asha Badiani and Annabelle Denly went down 6-0, 6-1 to leave the match tied at 4-4.

But Kathryn Schutterlin and Taysie Gujral won the decider 6-1, 6-0 to ensure Oxon's week finished on a high note.

Earlier, first pair Alice Atkins and Emma Poffley had won two rubbers out of three, with the second and third pairs having won one rubber each.

Oxfordshire’s men needed to take three rubbers in their Division 4 relegation decider against Sussex at Felixstowe.

Oxon were 4-3 down when it rained, and captain Jonny Maskens agreed with his counterpart to split the two remaining rubbers as the 5-4 loss ensured survival.

OXFORDSHIRE’S Connor Ferguson completed a week to remember as he won the Grade 2 12 & under event at Bath.

Ferguson, from Drayton, near Abingdon, defeated Middlesex’s Derin Acaroglu 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

The title, together with reaching the quarter finals in the 14s event, means Ferguson is now ranked the British No 1 12 & under player.

He will be looking to consolidate that position at the British Nationals at the West Hants Club, Bournemouth, next month.

Ferguson has been splitting his training between the Bath University Tennis Centre squad and the White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre at Abingdon.

OXFORDSHIRE’S Arthur Manson has won back-to-back Grade 3 events. The North Oxford youngster followed up his success in the Penny & Sinclair Championships at 9 & under by taking the 10 & under title at Windsor.

He came from a set down to win 2-4, 4-1 and then 10-8 in the tie-break against Berkshire’s Jack Graham.
