BEN Calnan came from behind to retain his men’s open title at the Oxfordshire Babolat County Closed tournament at Virgin Active Oxford.

After losing the first set of the final 7-5 to fellow Virgin Active coach Jack Rooney, Calnan fought back to win the next two 7-6, 6-3 in front of a large crowd.

Sam Heath won both the 16 & under singles title and the 18 & under doubles with Harrison Ridge.

Raia Jagger won the 16 & girls singles and the 14 & under mixed doubles with Ollie Broadhurst.

There was a triple success for Chloe Elliott, who beat Jasmine Conway 10-7 in the final set to win the 12 & under girls singles, and also took the mixed with Aidan Casey and the 14 & under doubles with Jana Cooper Marcos.

Aoife McGuire won the ten & under girls singles 10-5 in the final set against Patrisia Radan, and took the doubles with Jasmine Conway.

Bobby Hornby defeated Arthur Manson 11-9 in the final set tie-break in both the nine & under and ten & under boys singles.

Jack Veal beat brother Oliver 10-5 in the eight & under boys singles final.

  • OXFORDSHIRE’S men’s team emulated the ladies by gaining promotion from Division 6 in the Seniors 35’s Men’s Inter-County Cup.

Their team of Paul Butcher, Tom Greenland, Jay Sexton and Bruce Young beat Northumberland and Cumbria 4-1 to top the table.

  • CHOLSEY clinched the Ladies Division 1 title in OLTA Babolat Summer League after Virgin Active failed to defeat Oxford Sports.

Sports will need to beat Cholsey in their last match to avoid relegation.

The promotion race in Men’s Division 2 will go to the wire, with the top six separated by three points.
