NORTH Oxford are celebrating after clinching promotion to the Aegon Team Tennis National League in fine fashion.

Another 12-0 whitewash maintained their 100 per cent record in the final round of South West (East) Regional Division matches.

Jon Maskens, captain Jack Rooney, Jeff Hunter, Ben Calnan, and Joe Cartledge all convincingly won their matches against Windsor.

As a result of promotion, North Oxford will compete in the National Open South West Division.

Meanwhile, this weekend North Oxford will be staging the Varsity Match between Oxford and Cambridge.

Over the the two days, the eight-strong teams battle it out in a best-of-21 contest, consisting of 12 singles and nine doubles matches.

l ABINGDON School pupil Sebastien Muller missed a chance to play at Wimbledon when he lost in the first round of qualifying for the Under 14 HSBC Road to Wimbledon event.

The 13-year-old went down 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) to Samuel Constantinou.

l HOME players Luke Strivens and Cameron Murphy beat Gloucestershire's Harry Chambers 10-3 in the final set tie-break to win the doubles title at the LTA Grade 4 event at Oxfordshire Health & Racquets Club.

Oxon’s Maria Ustic beat fellow county player Athina Schlepphorst 4-1 in the 10 & Under final.

l OXFORD Sports have moved top of men's Division 1 in the Oxfordshire Babolat Summer League despite a 4-4 draw with Thame.

l FORMER Oxfordshire singles champion Barbara Ruck has died in Devon at the age of 104.

The daughter of former England football international Herbert Smith, she was the Oxfordshire Ladies singles champion in both 1949 and 1951 and ladies doubles champion four times.

She and her husband, Charles Ruck, who were members of the Bohemians Club in North Oxford, won the Oxfordshire mixed doubles crown in 1948.
