TENNIS: Rey reaches last 16

Three of Oxfordshire's most promising players participated in the national finals of the HSBC Road to Wimbledon 14 and under challenge.

Giles Waterson and Sophie Marriott, who play at Abingdon's White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre, and Sebastian Rey, the county's No 1 junior, from Wantage spent almost a week playing on the grass courts of SW19.

On finals day, the players received coaching from former British No 1 Tim Henman.

The first two days were played as a group stage. At the end of day two all three Oxon players progressed to the main draw of 32.

Waterson and Marriott both lost their next match, but Rey went through to the last 16, losing to the eventual winner.
