FOUR STARS
Each of the 26 paintings in this exhibition is exquisitely beautiful. Textured backgrounds, delicate lace, flawless skin and flowers in bloom are all lovingly captured with a rich softness and a subtle surreal quality.
By combining unlikely colours, such as yellow and fuchsia pink, O’Brien creates strong backgrounds and repeat patterns that ignore conventional perspective, resulting in pieces with a concentrated stillness that portray women with a mystical and evocative presence.
The bold beautiful colours that O’Brien uses, and the quality of light she captures in each piece, make this a delightful and exciting exhibition.
It will inspire and uplift on even the gloomiest of winter days.
The exhibition is at Art Jericho, open Wednesday to Sunday, continuing until March 16.
