* Oxford heroes Ride cement what has been a triumphant comeback tour with a headline set this Sunday at the Field Day festival.

IT has been a long time in the waiting, but Oxford indie-rock heroes Ride are to make their first UK festival appearance for more than 20 years.

The East Oxford ‘shoegaze’ band play this weekend’s Field Day Field, in London’s Victoria Park – as part of a triumphant comeback tour, which has already seen them win over sell-out crowds across the UK and North America – including an historic return to the Zodiac room at the O2 Academy Oxford.

The band, Andy Bell, Mark Gardener, Laurence ‘Loz’ Colbert and Steve Queralt, headline Field Day’s Sunday proceedings, topping a bill which also features Wheatley’s Gaz Coombes (formerly of Supergrass, and also enjoying critical acclaim with new album Matador), and Patti Smith, Baxter Dury, Eagulls, Errors, Ex-Hex, Gulf, Hookworms, Justin Robertson and Savages. The set will be the last chance for fans to see Ride before they head off to play festivals in Europe and Japan.

Also playing at Field Day is Oxford’s Philip Selway – the Radiohead drummer turned singer-songwriter. He shares the bill with the likes of Caribou, FKA Twigs, DJ Andrew Weatherall, Django Django, Jungle, Jolta, Rae Morris, Rat Boy, Spector,Sophie, Toumani & Sidiki Diabate and Tropics.

In a statement, Ride said: “We are very excited to be playing at Field Day. We look forward to wrapping it all up on the main stage on Sunday night, where we’ll be playing our first UK festival show since Glastonbury 1994.”

* Energetic pop icon Foxes has succeeded in scoring a Guinness World Record, after a breakneck one-day tour, which saw her play seven cities in 12 hours – including one at Freud’s in Walton Street.

She wins the honour of being the artist with the ‘most live concerts performed in 12 hours in different cities’. The whistlestop tour, last Wednesday, raised money for cancer charity Trekstock, and was backed by Citroen, who transported her between gigs, as the singer has yet to pass her driving test.
