RESIDENTS can have their say on proposals to build 40 affordable homes on a disused allotment site, described as a “blot on the landscape”.

Oxford City Council wants to build the homes on East Minchery Farm in Littlemore and has organised two public exhibitions for residents to view the plans on Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27.

It is hoped a final planning application for the site, bordered by Priory Road, the Oxford Academy and a railway line, will be submitted at the end of May.

Access to the site will be from Priory Road.

Lois Muddiman, from the city council, told a meeting of Littlemore Parish Council last week: “As part of the affordable housing programme the city council plans to build 40 homes on the East Minchery Farm site.

“The 40 homes would then be owned by the city council and become part of the housing stock and 30 per cent of the site will be green space for use by the local community.

“We are currently consulting with stakeholders and this will culminate in an exhibition.”

The 40 homes would be a mixture of flats and one to four bedroom houses.

The green space could be used for allotments and a play area, but Ms Muddiman added: “We are very interested to hear what local people would like to see on the green spaces.”

The homes would be funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Chris Lee, city council spokesman, said the number of parking spaces would depend on the final plan for the site, which was still being developed.

Gill Sanders, county councillor for Littlemore, said: “We want to encourage people to come along and make their comments and I think it is really important that they do come along.

“Personally I am very excited by this project.

“It is a piece of land not being used for anything and it is going to provide homes we desperately need.”

Anne Mogridge, Littlemore Parish Council chairman, said: “I think it is really interesting, a really good proposal.”

Littlemore resident Dorian Hancock said: “Thank you to the city council for finally doing something with that monstrocity which has been a blot on the landscape.”

The exhibition on Friday, April 26, will be held at Falcoln Close, near Blackbird Leys, from 3pm to 7pm .

A community fun day will be held alongside the exhibition on Saturday, April 27, at Littlemore Community Centre in Giles Road from 10am to 6pm.

Residents will be able to see plans, a model of the development and can also talk to officers about the project.
