MAY I thank Mr Biggs of Kennington for his concern. I am alive and well but have been busy with building alterations.
I enjoyed the article about Sunnyside Hospital, in the late ’50s. It was a police “Tea Spot” if on night duty.
One night a nurse asked about a policeman with stripes on his arm, telling me there was one outside.
Two officers ran, jumped on bikes and crashed after about 20 feet, no Sgt!
She had tied the bikes together with a crepe bandage.
Regarding Cowley airfield, as kids we played among the plane wrecks and got various bits, compasses and also old wireless ariels that made great paper knives.
When the workers arrived and left by bike, there were lots of cyclists and traffic duty was quite daunting.
One cyclist failed to stop for my signal, I called after him but got a two-finger reply, his mates all cheered but I got him on his way back.
He said he’d report me to his shop steward. I told him what he could do with his shop steward… Oh happy days.
