THREE workers were arrested during an immigration raid on two food outlets in Oxford yesterday.
Officers from the Border Agency apprehended the men at Peppers Burgers and the Bombay Restaurant – two doors apart in Walton Street, Jericho – at 1.30pm.
At Peppers Burgers a 23-year-old Bangladeshi man was found to have over-stayed his visa and arrested.
At Bombay Restaurant a 23-year-old Bangladeshi man was found to have over-stayed his visa and a 33-year-old Pakistani man had entered the UK illegally.
Ali Ashraf, manager of both outlets, said: “It was a shock, because we were just in the middle of fixing a fan and it wasn’t very pleasant.
“They were like ‘freeze’, ‘freeze’. It was not a very nice experience.
“But they explained they were just doing their job.
He added: “I have never come across this before. They wanted to see if everyone had the right to work and it turned out a few of them are students who haven’t been keeping their college paperwork up to date as they should have been.”
All three men were detained pending their removal from the UK.
