OXFORD’s cobbled streets are contrasted with Cornish shores in an art exhibition at the O3 Gallery.

Susan Isaac’s City and Shoreline oil paintings compare the hustle and bustle of life in Oxford with the calm of coastal towns.

Although not from Oxford herself, Susan, 52, is a frequent visitor and has been inspired to paint its iconic buildings.

She said: “I first came to Oxford because my daughter was studying here and I was completely bowled over by its architecture. It’s visually a very exciting place.”

Susan’s art aims to place the viewer in the scene and she hopes that her Oxford paintings “will offer a fresh perspective from fresh eyes”.

Gallery director Helen Statham, 27, said: “Oxford has to be one of the most picturesque cities in Northern Europe. We really aim to represent it in our exhibitions. Susan has recreated stunning scenes of Oxford through joyful, dynamic and celebratory works of art.”

Helen expects that visitors will be ‘delighted’ by both scenes of places they know and, perhaps, do not.

City and Shoreline is at the O3 Gallery, Oxford Castle, until April 28.
