THE author of Watership Down made a lifelong fan’s dream come true when she got the opportunity to meet her idol.
Gemma Golland, 28, was first in the queue to meet 94-year-old Richard Adams at Blackwell’s book shop in Broad Street, Oxford, on Sunday.
Mr Adams was at the shop to sign new releases of his novel Shardik and classic Watership Down.
Miss Golland, illustrator and creative director of website subeta.net, travelled from Colchester, Essex, to meet her hero.
She said: “When I was 10 and reading Watership Down I just felt the urge to draw the characters. It was absolutely incredible to meet him, he was just amazing and his voice had such warmth.”
Watership Down tells the tale of three rabbits who seek shelter in Watership Down after their home is destroyed by humans.
