THE man who owns the fastest shed in the world has admitted he feels "a little bit famous" after appearing on an earlier episode of Channel 4's Shed Of The Year.

Kevin Nicks raced his shed-on-wheels to a speed of 88.086mph this time last year, and has spent the past 12 months driving it to car shows up and down the UK.

The 51-year-old from Great Rollright appeared in episode two of this year's TV series, where host George Clarke visits some of the UK's wackiest sheds.

Despite not making it through to the final, he said the whole experience was something "different".

He said: "I spent three days filming. It was quite exciting but I've also just been to Car Fest in Cheshire, which is hosted by Chris Evans for Children In Need.

"Chris sat in my shed and I said 'I need to race it on the track, it's the fastest shed in the world'. And he made it happen and I was racing my shed in front of 170,000 people.

"It was the best event I've ever been to."

Mr Nicks is off to another car show, this time in Hampshire, in three weeks and says he loves seeing people's reaction when they see his creation.

He added: "I'm planning to get it over 100mph next."

Gardener and father-of-one Mr Nicks said he spent months walking past his old Volkswagen Passat on his drive before he decided he needed to do something with it last year.

Reluctant to throw away the 1999 2.8l V6 car – which has 200 brake horsepower – he came up with the "bonkers" idea of turning it into a shed.
